Notes

'Metallicum' painted lady fern (Athyrium niponicum 'Metallicum') is a fern for borders, rock gardens, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows 12 to 24 inches tall and wide, with an arching habit. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It does not flower, so you grow it for its foliage.

Pairs well with White Feather hosta, Wood lily, and Western sword fern.
