Notes

'Silver Falls' painted lady fern (Athyrium niponicum 'Silver Falls') is a fern for shade gardens, borders, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. The fronds are silvery with pinkish maroon midribs. The silver intensifies as the season goes on, and the best color shows in light shade.

Pairs well with Aureola Japanese forest grass, Rozanne crane's-bill, and Autumn fern.
