Notes

'Cristata' golden male fern (Dryopteris affinis 'Cristata') is a fern for shade gardens, woodland settings, borders, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy or clay soil. Its arching fronds make a graceful accent and grow at a moderate pace. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It also tolerates dry spells once established.

Pairs well with White Feather hosta, Red trillium, and Western sword fern.
