Notes

'Crown Of Thorns' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Crown Of Thorns') is a perennial for borders and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. George Hollis bred it in 1907. It grows upright and compact, and it bears fragrant, rosy magenta Japanese blooms in early to mid spring. The center fades much lighter than the outer petals.

Pairs well with Nepeta, Sensitive fern, and Carlton daffodil.
