Notes

'Darkness' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Darkness') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its dark maroon-red petals ring a center of bright gold stamens, and the flowers are pleasantly fragrant. The stems are stiff but graceful, and the blooms last a long time in a vase. Brand bred it.

Pairs well with White trillium, Prairie dropseed, and Black Hero tulip.
