Notes

'Departing Sun' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Departing Sun') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The Japanese type blooms in mid to late spring and early summer with large crimson flowers. The blooms have a faint fragrance and a center of twisting petaloids. Plants grow 2½ to 3 feet tall with dark green leaves.

Pairs well with Compass plant, Royal fern, and Spanish bluebell.
