Notes

Dwarf serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) is a shrub for borders, hedges, pollinator gardens, and food gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy or loamy soil. White spring flowers are fragrant and give way to blue to purple-black fruit in summer. The berries are grown for jams, jellies, pies, and herbal teas. It is a larval host for swallowtail butterflies, and it often suckers, so give it room to form a colony.

Pairs well with Coneflower, Siebold's hosta, and Black-eyed Susan.
