Notes

Downy serviceberry (Amelanchier arborea) is a tree for specimen planting, woodland gardens, rain gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Drooping white flowers open in spring before the leaves, and the leaves may turn wine-red in fall. Birds and other wildlife prefer this serviceberry.

Pairs well with River birch, Cinnamon fern, Foam flower, and Switchgrass.
