Notes

Allegheny serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis) is a tree for specimen plantings, borders, pollinator gardens, and food gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. White flowers open in clusters before the leaves appear, and summer berries turn from red to purple or nearly black. Deer tend to browse other plants first. The blue-green leaves turn orange or red in fall.

Pairs well with Witch hazel, Spicebush, Christmas fern, and Common blue violet.
