Notes

'El Capitan' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'El Capitan') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The large, light red, semi-double blooms open in late spring to early summer. It has good stems, so the flowers hold up well when cut. Edward Auten, Jr bred it.

Pairs well with Tiger lily, Prairie dropseed, and Black Hero tulip.
