Notes

'Elsie Purnell' heather (Calluna vulgaris 'Elsie Purnell') is a shrub for borders, rock gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It stays evergreen and has an ascending habit. Bees visit the flowers in summer and again in autumn.

Pairs well with Prairie dropseed, Paperbark maple, and Royal Purple smoketree.
