Notes

'Royal Purple' smoketree (Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple') is a shrub for specimen planting, accents, privacy screens, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It sits low on the menu for deer. Its purple to bronze leaves stand out all season, and butterflies visit it. It is also drought tolerant, so it needs little care once settled.

Pairs well with Blue fescue, Limelight hydrangea, and Ox-eye daisy.
