Notes

'Excelsior' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Excelsior') is a perennial for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The double flowers open in purple or crimson with violet shading. Cut a few stems to bring that rich color indoors. H.A. Terry bred it.

Pairs well with Earth Angel hosta, Bellwort, and Royal fern.
