Notes

'Fort McNair' red horse chestnut (Aesculus carnea 'Fort McNair') is a tree for use as a specimen. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. Reddish pink flowers with yellow throats open in upright panicles at the branch tips in spring. The glossy green leaves are large and palmate. It grows up to 35 feet high and wide, so give it a medium to large garden or an open landscape.

Pairs well with Juneberry, Festiva Maxima peony, and Burnet.
