Notes
'Frill Ride' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Frill Ride') is a shrub for containers, small gardens, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun. The frilly, rippled blooms are dark pink almost red in alkaline soil and purple to deep blue in acidic soil. Trim off faded flowers to encourage more blooms. Buds form in late summer to fall, so do not prune after August.
Pairs well with Mountain laurel, Northwind switchgrass, and Jacob’s ladder.
