Notes

Appalachian sedge (Carex appalachica) is a grass for low maintenance gardens and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It grows up to 24 inches tall and spreads 12 to 24 inches. Birds are drawn to it, and it tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Eastern columbine, Foam flower, and Dwarf crested iris.
