Notes

'Gil’s Emperor' peony (Paeonia 'Gil’s Emperor') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Gilbert S. Richmond bred it, and the fragrant Japanese type flowers have red and bronze centers. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Hosta, Little bluestem, Cheerfulness daffodil, and Polish Spirit clematis.
