Notes
Great St. John's wort (Hypericum ascyron) is a perennial for borders, rain gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet soil of most types. It stands 2 to 5 feet tall and carries 2 inch yellow flowers with bushy stamens in early to late summer. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. The large green leaves add bold texture to the bed.
Pairs well with Swamp milkweed, Cup plant, and Culver’s root.
