Notes

Kalm's St. John's wort (Hypericum kalmianum) is a shrub for borders, hedges, rock gardens, and foundation plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Bright yellow flowers appear in small clusters from early to late summer and draw butterflies and bees. The bark is papery and peels as the shrub ages.

Pairs well with Spicebush, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and Nodding onion.

Northeastern United States and Canada.
