Notes

Hop sedge (Carex lupulina) is a grass for woodland gardens, rain gardens, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer rarely make it their first choice. It grows at a moderate rate and forms a clump up to 47 inches tall. Butterflies, bees, and birds visit it.

Pairs well with Swamp milkweed, Blue flag, and Cardinal flower.
