Notes

Hungarian lilac (Syringa josikaea) is a shrub for borders and hedges, and it needs little care. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil of most types. Its fragrant lilac-violet flowers open in spring and attract bees. Give it plenty of room, since it can reach 10 feet tall and 12 feet wide.

Pairs well with May Night salvia, Feather reed grass, and Viburnum.
