Notes

'Independence Day' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Independence Day') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The double flowers open in late spring to early summer with cherry outer petals streaked white and mostly white inner petals. Each stem holds one 6 inch bloom well above the foliage, so the plant needs no support. Tim Kornder bred it.

Pairs well with Nepeta, Incrediball Storm Proof smooth hydrangea, Blue sage, and Black Hero tulip.
