Notes

'James Compton' simple-stemmed bugbane (Actaea simplex 'James Compton') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. Its creamy white, fragrant blooms open in summer and again in autumn. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Mini Skirt hosta, Blue wood aster, and Canada wild rye.
