Notes
'Pink Spike' simple-stemmed bugbane (Actaea simplex 'Pink Spike') is a perennial for borders, shade gardens, woodland settings, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. Deep burgundy leaves set off raspberry pink buds that open to fragrant, pale flowers. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Songbirds eat the seeds in fall and winter.
Pairs well with Christmas fern, Green Spice coral bells, and Annabelle hydrangea.
