Notes
'Brunette' simple-stemmed bugbane (Actaea simplex 'Brunette') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, shade gardens, and woodland settings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. The fragrant blooms attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Birds also visit the plant.
Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Western sword fern, and Invincibelle Ruby smooth hydrangea.
