Notes

'Black Negligee' simple-stemmed bugbane (Actaea simplex 'Black Negligee') is a perennial for borders, shade gardens, woodland gardens, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. It grows 48 to 60 inches tall and bears fragrant white flowers with a purple tinge. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Sum and Substance hosta, Foam flower, Japanese forest grass, and Annabelle hydrangea.
