Notes

Japanese burnet (Sanguisorba obtusa) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. It is not a favorite of rabbits, though hungry rabbits will eat almost anything. It forms low mounds of grey-green leaves with serrated edges. Arching, bottlebrush-like spikes of soft-pink flowers appear over a long period in summer.

Pairs well with Astilbe, Karl Foerster feather reed grass, and Paprika yarrow.
