Notes

Menzies burnet (Sanguisorba menziesii) is a perennial for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Tight, maroon-purple bottlebrush flowers rise on leafless stalks in early to late summer. Butterflies visit the blooms, and the seed heads stay attractive. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Astilbe, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and Dr. Alexander Fleming peony.
