Notes

Japanese pachysandra (Pachysandra terminalis) is a groundcover for borders, foundation plantings, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. It creeps slowly to form a green evergreen mat that grows 6 to 12 inches tall. Small white flowers are fragrant and attract bees. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with Lenten rose, Lady fern, and Duke blueberry.

Native range

Japan and north-central China.
