Notes

'Jefferson gage' plum (Prunus domestica 'Jefferson gage') is a tree for food gardens and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil. Judge Buel bred it in the 1820s. The fruits are grown for fresh eating and hang on the tree for several weeks, so you can pick a few each day. Plant a second plum nearby, since it is not self-fertile.

Pairs well with Hummelo betony, Ruby Spice sweet pepperbush, Gladiator ornamental onion, and Poppy mallow.
