Notes

'Leonard Messel' magnolia (Magnolia loebneri 'Leonard Messel') is a tree for borders, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deep purple buds open to fragrant, star-shaped blooms in white and pink from early to late spring. Bees, butterflies, and birds visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Korean spice viburnum, Foxglove, and Casa Blanca lily.
