Notes

'Mahaska' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Mahaska') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The dark maroon flowers are semi double and bloom in early to mid spring. Their waxy shine does not fade in sunlight, and the strong stems hold them up well. Willis J. Smith bred it from a seedling of 'Mons Martin Cahuzac'.

Pairs well with Iris, Incrediball hydrangea, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
