Notes

Meadow rue (Thalictrum dasycarpum) is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, and meadows. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to wet soil of most types. Deer tend to pass it by. It grows 3 to 5 feet tall, so it works well as a background plant in designed beds. Butterflies and bees visit the loose, creamy-green flower clusters.

Pairs well with Spotted joe-pye weed, Culver’s root, and Standing Ovation little bluestem.

Native range

Alberta and Ontario south to Arizona and Ohio.
