Notes

'Melrose' apple (Malus domestica 'Melrose') is a tree for the food garden and for fresh eating. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Freeman S. Howlett bred it in 1944 from Jonathan and Red Delicious. The fruit ripens late, and it keeps for 3 months or more. Bees visit the spring flowers, and you will need a second apple tree nearby for pollination.

Pairs well with Raspberry, Festiva Maxima peony, African marigold, and Pink Impression tulip.
