Notes

'Merlin' Lenten rose (Helleborus hybridus 'Merlin') is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland settings, winter interest, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part to full shade and average moisture. Large single purple flowers open in late winter and last a long time. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Josef Heuger bred this evergreen, mounding plant.

Pairs well with Marginal wood fern, Rosebay rhododendron, Northern sea oats, and White turtlehead.
