Notes
'Dark and Handsome' Lenten rose (Helleborus hybridus 'Dark and Handsome') is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland settings, borders, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part to full shade and average moisture. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. The silky black-purple flowers have double rows of petals and lime-green stamens. They open in late winter and early spring on mounding evergreen plants.
Pairs well with Marginal wood fern, Rosebay rhododendron, and Lady in Red lady fern.
