Notes

Mexican pinyon (Pinus cembroides) is a tree for low maintenance and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It stays small and bushy, with a rounded crown and blue-green needles in bundles of three. The tree is evergreen and drought tolerant. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and Autumn moor grass.
