Notes

Ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) is a tree for borders, specimen planting, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. The bark is cinnamon-brown to yellow-orange and flaky, and the long needles grow in tufts. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Quail, nutcrackers, and squirrels eat the seeds.

Pairs well with White fir, Witch hazel, and Christmas fern.
