Notes

'Nero' peony (Paeonia 'Nero') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Early spring blooms are dark red, semi-double, and ruffled, and they fade to red. The upright plants do not need support, and Joshua Scholten bred it. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits.

Pairs well with Liberty hosta, Cheerfulness daffodil, and Limelight hydrangea.
