Notes

'Nigra' American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Nigra') is a tree for hedges, privacy screens, specimen planting, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, loamy or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It grows slowly into a dense, fragrant evergreen that can reach 20 to 30 feet tall, and birds visit it.

Pairs well with Wintergreen, Berry Poppins winterberry, and Common snowdrop.
