Notes

'Nippon Maid' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Nippon Maid') is a perennial for borders, cut flower gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The dark red flowers have a Japanese form with a typical center and medium size. They sit on slender, stiff stems of medium to dwarf height. Edward Auten, Jr bred it in 1931.

Pairs well with Nepeta, Pincushion flower, and Spanish bluebell.
