Notes

'Northern Spy' apple (Malus domestica 'Northern Spy') is a tree for food gardens and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is grown for fresh eating, cooking, and juice, and many cooks call it the best pie apple. Oliver Chapin bred it in the early 1840s. The tree is not self-fertile, so plant another apple nearby for pollination.

Pairs well with White oak, Nodding onion, and Purrsian Blue nepeta.
