Notes
Ookow (Dichelostemma congestum) is a bulb for borders, containers, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average soil of most types. A single head of blue-violet flowers rises on a long stalk above a few grass-like leaves at the base. It blooms as grasses mature and begin to brown, which signals the start of summer. Bees visit the flowers.
Pairs well with Silver feather grass, California poppy, and Jerusalem sage.
Native range
CA, OR, and WA.
