Notes

Oregon crabapple (Malus fusca) is a tree for woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and moist to wet soil. Fragrant white to pink flowers open in spring and draw bees and butterflies. Small oblong fruits ripen from yellow to orange to red, and birds eat them. The tart fruit is grown for jams and jellies, often mixed with other fruits.

Pairs well with Woods rose, Rocky mountain juniper, and White phlox.
