Notes

Rocky mountain juniper (Juniperus scopulorum) is a tree for hedges, privacy screens, and low maintenance plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 1, or down to -60°F (-51°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Female plants make small, berry-like cones that ripen to dark blue or black in fall, and birds and small mammals eat them. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. Give it time, because it grows slowly.

Pairs well with Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and Little bluestem.
