Notes

'Painted Beauty' carnation (Dianthus 'Painted Beauty') is a perennial for borders, rock gardens, containers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. The fragrant salmon pink flowers have maroon flecks and center disks. They open in spring and again in summer, and bees and butterflies visit them.

Pairs well with Blue fescue, Queen of Night tulip, and Paula Fay peony.
