Notes

'Penny Royal' peony (Paeonia 'Penny Royal') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Purple blooms with black flares open from early to late spring and attract butterflies. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Derek Irvine bred it.

Pairs well with September Charm anemone, Korean spice viburnum, Big bluestem, and The President clematis.
