Notes
'Pinocchio' sweet William (Dianthus barbatus 'Pinocchio') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Fragrant double flowers open in spring and early summer in red, pink, white, and bicolor. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds visit the blooms.
Pairs well with Cytherea peony, August Moon hosta, Little Beauty tulip, and Ageratum.
