Notes

'Pirate Flag' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Pirate Flag') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The single, dark red blooms open in late spring on tall, stiff stems. The petals have extra heavy substance, and the foliage reaches up to the base of the blooms. Edward Auten, Jr bred it.

Pairs well with Iris, Little Beauty tulip, Ostrich fern, and Tiger lily.
