Notes

'Proteus' clematis (Clematis 'Proteus') is a vine for cottage gardens, containers, specimen use, and privacy screens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. Full double blooms of rosy-lilac open on old wood in May and early June, and single flowers follow through the summer. Charles Noble bred it. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Limelight hydrangea, Paris coral bells, and Little bluestem.
